What is College and Career Readiness?

College and career readiness refers to the knowledge, skills, and dispositions students need to exit high school prepared for success in postsecondary education, training, or direct entry into the workforce without requiring remediation. This includes core academic competencies (e.g., in math, reading, and science), as well as essential "soft" skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and adaptability, which enable lifelong learning and career advancement in a technology-driven economy. Essentially, it's about equipping students to enroll and thrive in college, earn industry-recognized credentials, or secure gainful employment, fostering equitable opportunities for all.

CCR at Battle Creek High School (Maury County)

We are Battle Creek High School, a public high school in Spring Hill, Tennessee (part of Maury County Public Schools). We opened in 2024 as the district's newest and largest facility to address overcrowding and growth in the area. Our academic focus directly embodies college and career readiness through its state-of-the-art Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, we offer hands-on courses in fields like visual arts, computer science, and marketing to build in-demand skills aligned with local industry needs. The district's broader focus on workforce partnerships (e.g., with companies like Columbia Machine Works) and innovative programming ensures our students are "college, career, and beyond" ready, with options for collegiate preparation, vocational training, and experiential learning to compete in any postsecondary market. This approach supports our district's emphasis on academic growth, closing achievement gaps, and real-world readiness, as recognized in state awards for excellence.
